There's no real right or wrong answer to which style is better. It boils down to personal preference and what look you are trying to achieve in your home.
For instance, Traditional shutters are generally a big hit with homeowners who have a country or colonial style home or decor. Also, you may have noticed that some homes or even stores and restaurants have what many called "cafe shutters".
Cafe shutters are also Traditional style shutters, however they do not extend the full height of the window.
This allows light to pour in over top of the shutters, yet allows privacy eye level and below from outsiders or passers by.
As for Plantation shutters , this type is very popular with owners of modern or contemporary homes.
The large louvers look great on larger windows and doors and allow an incredible amount of light into the room while leaving the shutter panels closed against the windows.
No matter what style or decor your home the shutter style choice is yours. Perhaps you have different decors in different rooms of your home? There's not rule saying you can only have one type of shutter throughout your whole home. Mix it up!
